Meet Our Speaker: Mark Powell

Originally from Wales, Mark has called Whangaparaoa home for the past 23 years. His career spans leadership roles with some of the world’s largest retailers - including Wal-Mart and Tesco - before moving to New Zealand and spending 13 years at The Warehouse Group. There, he held positions including Group Supply Chain, CEO Warehouse Stationery, CEO Australia, and ultimately Group CEO from 2011–2016.

Since then, Mark has served as a Non-Executive Director for NZX and ASX listed and private companies including Kiwi Property Group, JB Hi-Fi Group, STIHL, and 7-Eleven Australia. He has also contributed to academia as an adjunct professor at both Massey and Auckland business schools. Today, he focuses on CEO and executive mentoring and coaching, bringing a holistic and values-driven approach to leadership development.

Locally, Mark has made a significant community impact - chairing the board of Whangaparaoa College, serving as a qualified pastor on the leadership team at Whangaparaoa Baptist Church, and supporting his family’s local business, Tahi Electrical. Alongside his wife Maria, he is now enjoying the grandparent stage of life.
