I’m delighted to have the opportunity to talk to Kaye Redpath, The Practice Manager at Geneva Healthcare to learn about one of our new members, Coast Physio, which is a part of the Geneva Healthcare Group. With over 25 years of experience, they have built a strong reputation for providing expert physiotherapy services while staying deeply connected to the local community.

S: Can you tell us about Coast Physio’s history and how it has evolved over time?
C: Absolutely! Coast Physio was founded in 1994 by Peter and Judith Melvin. Their goal was to provide high-quality physiotherapy services to the local community. Over time, we expanded to Silverdale, Orewa, and Whangaparaoa. In 2022, we became part of Geneva Healthcare, allowing us to continue our commitment to patient-centered care while staying deeply engaged with the local community.
S: How does Coast Physio provide comprehensive, community-focused care?
C: We deliver a wrap-around service tailored to diverse needs. With a team of highly experienced clinicians, including four hand therapists and 11 physiotherapists, the practice offers musculoskeletal and sports physiotherapy, hand therapy, return-to-work programmes, pelvic health rehabilitation, concussion management, and integrated care pathways.
A key strength is Coast Physio’s collaboration with local medical providers, sports clubs, and businesses. The Integrated Care Pathways programme, for instance, combines physiotherapy, radiology, and specialist input to support recovery from significant injuries.
S: What is the legacy behind Coast Physio’s success?
C: The previous owner, Peter Melvin’s dedication to physiotherapy and the community helped establish Coast Physio as a reputable practice. Over the years, it has worked with local sports teams, surf and tennis clubs, and retirement villages. Under Peter’s leadership, the clinic also became the leading provider of hand therapy on the Hibiscus Coast.
After 28 years, Peter and Judith sold the practice to Geneva, ensuring continued excellence in care. Under new leadership, Coast Physio maintains high standards while benefiting from Geneva’s extensive network and expertise.
S: How does Coast Physio engage with the local community?
C: Coast Physio’s strong local ties are evident in its active engagement with the community. The team runs weekly clinics at Orewa and Whangaparaoa Colleges, provides sideline physiotherapy for Silverdale Rugby, and sponsors sports organisations like Whangaparaoa Tennis and Red Beach Life Saving Club. Early intervention programmes also support local businesses by promoting workplace health and safety.
By bringing physiotherapy directly to schools, businesses, and sports teams, Coast Physio ensures the community has access to essential care, helping individuals lead active, pain-free lives while fostering strong local connections.
S: What are some of the new challenges and opportunities Coast Physio has taken on recently?
C: Our respected physiotherapist Nathan Trebilco joined the NZ Breakers for their 2024/25 NBL season as their dedicated team physiotherapist. Overcoming challenges, Nathan earned the respect of the team and developed a deeper understanding of professional sports physiotherapy, fueling his passion for this rewarding field.
With a dedicated team, expert services, and a strong commitment to the community, Coast Physio remains a trusted name in healthcare, supporting the wellbeing of the Hibiscus Coast for years to come.
