When you think of your local mechanic, community fundraising and teenage road safety probably aren’t the first things that come to mind. But then again, you probably haven’t met Kellie Tremayne.
Kellie brings more than 20 years of automotive industry experience to her role as Managing Director of Auto Super Shoppe Silverdale — including five years as CEO of the wider Auto Super Shoppe network. She knows the business inside out. But what really drives her isn’t horsepower — it’s people. Kellie and her husband Ryan have called the Hibiscus Coast home for over 30 years, and that deep sense of belonging shapes everything about how she runs her workshop.
“I always said that if I was going to buy a workshop, it could only be an Auto Super Shoppe,” she told me when we sat down to chat. When this one came up for sale, it was a no-brainer.
That community-first mindset has translated into two standout programmes that I think every local should know about.
The first is a clever fundraising initiative for clubs and charities. Here’s how it works: whenever a customer brings their car in for a WoF, service, tyres or repair and nominates a local organisation as their club of choice, Auto Super Shoppe Silverdale credits 5% of the invoice value directly to that club’s account. A detailed credit note goes to the club administrator so they can track every contribution. Those credits can be redeemed at any time in the form of an Auto Super Shoppe Silverdale gift voucher for things like servicing a club van, or helping out a member in need. Crucially, it costs the customer nothing extra; the rebate comes entirely out of the business’s own pocket. To put the potential in perspective, Kellie notes that based on the industry average invoice value, if just 20 club members choose Auto Super Shoppe Silverdale in a year, that’s roughly $500 in vouchers for their organisation — they can even be auctioned or raffled to stretch the value further.
The second programme is close to Kellie’s heart as a parent. When teenagers bring their car in for their first service, they receive six months of NZRA roadside rescue free of charge— or they can opt for a full 12 months at a heavily discounted rate of just $30. The thinking is simple: well-maintained cars and the security of roadside assistance mean young drivers are safer on the road, and families can worry a little less.
And if that weren’t enough, Kellie recently put the question to the community: which local charity should receive a free comprehensive service and full groom? The people spoke, and Saving Hope Foundation — a registered charitable trust dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating and rehoming dogs right here in Silverdale — came out on top.
This is what being a local business truly looks like. Pop in and see the team — they’re the real deal.
