From Global Boardrooms to Timber Floors

There’s a particular kind of courage in walking away from a career that, on paper, looks flawless. Grant Harvison — engineer, global executive, digital entrepreneur — had every reason to keep doing what he’d always done. Instead, he listened to something deeper.

Grant’s professional story reads like a highlight reel. A Mechanical Engineering degree led him into a 35-year career in IT, including the founding of an ecommerce startup in the early 2000s that landed contracts with Microsoft, Yahoo, NZ Telecom, Telstra, and Dick Smith — a true pioneer of digital photographic printing before most people knew what ecommerce meant. Add to that over 20 years working overseas in London and Zurich for the likes of PepsiCo, The Walt Disney Company, Burmah Castrol, and Adecco — the world’s largest HR firm — and you’ve got a résumé that could fill a wall.

But three years ago, Grant made a quiet admission to himself: the spark was gone. He found himself clock-watching, eager to get away from his screen and into something hands-on. He’d always had a love for drawing and art — even considered a Fine Arts degree before engineering “won.” That creative itch never left.

Then he discovered The Timber Doctor franchise, based in Australia, and saw something he couldn’t ignore. He took the leap, became the first Timber & Stone Doctor in Auckland, and hasn’t looked back.

Today, Grant runs The Timber & Stone Doctor right here in our community — a specialist service repairing and restoring timber, stone, and composite surfaces for both residential and commercial clients. What he does is genuinely remarkable: matching colours, blending repairs, recreating wood grain so seamlessly that your eye simply glides over the fix. He’s saved businesses thousands of dollars by rescuing floors, benchtops, and cabinets that seemed destined for the skip.

From new builds needing remediation at handover, to rental properties, house sales, and accidental damage — Grant shows up with the quiet confidence of someone who’s finally found their calling.

For Silverdale Business, Grant Harvison represents exactly what we celebrate: talent that plants itself locally and gives back through skill, craft, and genuine care for the people it serves.

Welcome to the community, Grant. We’re glad you found your way home.
